Dimensioning in 3d autocad 2018

Hi,I have a drawing originally from inventor. When I try to dimension the dimensions are suspended when I look at the object in isometric. What could be the cause.

You must play with the UCS command.

It contains everything but needs a little training time.

Dimensions are planar to the current UCS. [At the current ELEVATION level (default=0).]

To get back to the GCS, enter UCS then press ENTER two times.

As an alternative to what @tramber said (which is a good approach) you can also look at  "Create View" commands in your LAYOUT tab - and dimension the view elements. Might be a bit easier.
