Literally: Ext(tension) Line1 and 2

(for styles / new dimensions: dimse1 and 2 , see dimstyle tab lines, supress Extlines1 and 2)

To illustrate....

For an existing Dimension, select it, and in the Properties palette:

For not-yet-drawn Dimensions, open the DIMSTYLE dialog box, and Modify the Style definition:

If those boxes are not checked, the extension lines in new Dimensions will not be suppressed, i.e. they will be visible.
