Dimension Line extends past extension lines

Dimension Line extends past extension lines

With my dimension style when the dimension is a small distance such as a 1/2" to 3/4" the dimension line extends beyond the extension line. How can i get this dimesion style to not extend the dimesion line past the extension line? We use a block called tick for the tick marks.

command DIM "Status"
and look in there for the answer.

Those "extensions" are halfway part of the Block, like the length of arrowheads plus the tails on them when they actually are arrowheads [adding another arrow size amount], when they point inward from outside the extension lines, and they are determined by a combination of the arrow size in the Dimension Style definition and the Dimension Scale setting.  If you don't want them at all, you can use a Block definition without that Line, but then when the arrowheads are inside the extension lines, you will have a gap of the arrowhead size between the extension line / tick and the end of the dimension line.  You could reduce the size of the extensions by making the diagonal tick mark part larger in relation to the one-unit-long Line part in the Block definition, and using a smaller arrow size in the Dimension Style definition.

Edit the dim style, Fit tab, Fit options, Always keep text between ext lines.

Welcome to these Forums!

My suggestion is the solution for you.  To be specific: in that sample drawing, edit the "tick" Block definition, eliminate the Line and Scale the tick part up 100 times, and use an arrow size of .0009375 instead of .09375 in the Dimension Style definition.  You could probably get a good result with some smaller ratio than 100, but I didn't experiment to see exactly how far the ratio needs to go so that the width of the tick covers the gap between the extension line and the end of the dimension line -- I leave it to those who need such an adjustment to work that out, since it depends on the definition of the tick [the OP's is custom, not AutoCAD's "Architectural tick" block, and I didn't compare their sizes].

That only affects the position of the text.  It doesn't eliminate the dimension lines going outboard of the extension lines, as the OP requested.

That is weird, I tested it and it worked so I posted.  Now when I try it I can't get it to work.

Sorry for my lack of attention, your suggestion worked for me. I create a polyline of 100 meters and set the width as 10 meters; created a block using it; choose User Arrow; and then set the arrow size as .001. Many thanks. I was confused because I don't know how to edit the "tick" Block definition, I had to create a new one.

... with either the REFEDIT or BEDIT command, but you'll need to Insert one independently of a Dimension, in order to be able to select it for the purpose.
