DIM Layer Default

Is there a way to set dimensions to be on my DIM layer?

I have changed it to DIM layer in the Dimension Ribbon and then saved my template file.

Yet when I start a new drawing it changes back to "Use Current".

This may be a newbie question.

Hi @AWVGPeyton  Change the value of the DIMLAYER variable to the layer you want your dimensions on.

That only changes it for the current drawing. When I start a new one it goes back to "Use Current".

Is there a way that to change it and for every drawing I create the default will be my "DIM" layer?

You need to set it in your template and start new drawings from your template.

I did set it in my template and saved the template.

It still defaults to "Use Current".

Confused.

How are you starting a new drawing?  Type NEW and browse to your template and open.

I hit the new drawing button and it points to my template.

When my template opens a new drawing it is set to "Use Current"

When I open the actual .DWT file it is set to "DIM", like I want.

Check in your OPTIONS on the files tab > template settings >Default template file name for QNEW is pathed to the template you are modifying.
