DGN Import Problem

Hi,

We are in a process of moving several hundreds of thousands DGN files from Projectwise to the Vault (Pro).

It seems that importing them into the Vault goes well, but trying to import the files into AutoCAD does not work as supposed.

What happens: First of all, the DGN files are V8i versions (which should be ok), start -dgnimport and select main DGN, selecting how to handle the file (no changes to layers or what so ever), how to handle referenced files (see attached screenshot).

Hitting OK results (best case) in an incomplete import (missing references) ore in nothing happened at all.

Anyone having experience in importing DGN files WITH external referenced files into AutoCAD? How to do that without much troubles??

Note: When selecting the main DGN for import, the preview shows the complete DGN WITH the external refs.

Is there a tool to verify the integrity of the DGN files?

Its best if you convert each xref separately instead of trying to convert them from the top file only.
Or use Microstation (trial or short term rental) to o the conversions for you, its the better approach.

we're talking about aprox. 1.3 million dgn files in total... don't see that happening

There is no automation for that amount sadly, and AutoCAD is not the best tool for sure IMHO: time to outsource it or hire a bunch of interns.
