Desktop AutoCad crashes after it open

Hi,

 

I have the 2014 Desktop version for AutoCad.  When opening any drawing, the file will open, however, the moment I try to do a command the program crashes.  I can't even click on "File / Settings" to look at things.  Please advise!

Your installation may be corrupted, try reinstalling.

When was it last working okay?

What changed in between then and now?

As a test, log out of Windows, then get someone else (or yourself) to log into the PC using a *different* Windows account, preferably one who has not logged into this PC in the past. Now launch AutoCAD.

Any better?

I am worried this is my issue - trying to run Autocad 2014 on a machine that has Windows 10.  This is very frustrating because its the 2014 desktop version is that old - its not like I am trying to keep running a 2006 version or something.  I am afraid this is going to force me to upgrade to the subscription version.

Window 10 does not entirely support AutoCAD version 2014.

The OS has been developed at least for version 2016 and the above.

@Anonymous, FWIW, we do run Civil 3D 2014 on Windows 10 with no issues.

Yes, it's not supported, but it should work with no issues. Of course no two systems are alike, and your mileage may vary.

Please try the test I mentioned in post #3

Right click on the AutoCAD desktop shortcut, see about running it in 'compatibility mode'.

Good to know!  My 2014 AutoCad initially ran on Windows 10 (new computer purchased in February of 2017).  But there was an update to Windows 10 late July/early August.  And I was gone for most of August so only uncovered the issue now - it seems like it became incompatible with this latest update to Windows 10.

Thanks!  But this is no compatibility mode for Windows 10.  The compatibility mode only goes up to 8.
