Dashed line type turns into a fainted dotted line

It happens to all drawings that I open so it must me some weird setting that got turned on. I tried setting DYNMODE to 0 but nothing changed.

the LINESTYPE scale of the object(s) may be too small in relationship to your LTSCALE setting?

That's clearly not AutoCAD's out-of-the-box DASHED linetype, so I assume you mean the word "dashed" in a generic sense.  If the dotted most-of-the-length middles and the continuous end portions in each case are together one Line [or Polyline or whatever], it looks to me like the linetype definition calls for spaced dots with gaps, similar to DOT but with several of them together defining one "cycle."  That would cause those continuous end portions, which always fill out the ends of things beyond multiples of the linetype cycle length.  Post the linetype definition.
