Custom User Arrows / Ticks For Dimensions

I am trying to use a custom tick at the ends of my dimensions.  Choosing the blocks is simple, and it basically works the way I want.  But when using the custom block, a gap is added to the end of the dimension line.  I want to eliminate this gap so that it looks like a normal, out of the box dimension.  According to the software documentation:

"Note: Annotative blocks cannot be used as custom arrowheads for dimensions or leaders.

Arrowhead sizing relies on the overall dimension scale factor. When you create a dimension, the block is inserted where the arrowheads would normally go. The object's X and Y scale factors are set to arrowhead size overall scale. The dimension line is trimmed by text gap x overall scale units at each end. To trim the dimension line, the rightmost block is inserted with a zero rotation angle for horizontal dimensioning. The leftmost block is rotated 180 degrees about its insertion point."

I have bolded the one line for clarity, and I think this loosely addresses the why.  But what it doesn't clarify is how to adjust this variable.  I am sure it is something obvious I am missing, but does anyone have any insight?

When you create a dimension arrow block, it must be drawn so that it fills the 1x1 space.  Point the arrow to the right and use the right side of the arrow as the insertion point.  For user blocks, the dimension line is designed not to overlap the 1x1 box so you may need to draw the line connecting your arrow to the left side of the 1x1 box.  Otherwise there will be a gap.  This is explained in the manuals and help files. I believe the dimvar you need is DIMGAP.  Try adjusting that in your drawing, and see if that gets you where you want to be.
