We recently had a re-image so our latest versions of CAD have been removed.  Prior to the re-image I exported a migration file.  we now have AutoCAD 2016 and I can't seem to import the file because it tells me its only for 2015.  Is there a way to migrate my settings from AutoCAD 2015 to AutoCAD 2016?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Drew,

Welcome to the community!

Here is an AKN Article on migrating settings. And here is another.

If those don't help, please update your post so I can continue to help

I know you don't want to hear this but I have to say it. I've seen a lot of people spend more time trying to fix their "migration", than if they would have just sat down for 30 minutes and put everything back manually.

Back to your issue, I think the file it exports is a ZIP file, isn't it? (Can you open with 7-Zip?)

With history, I have determined its a BAD idea to have AutoCAD migrate settings.  We have all of our customizations associated to a CUIx file.  When we upgrade AutoCAD I make 'copies' of the CUIx file and all other customization files.  Then I associated the new 'copied' customizations files to the new version of AutoCAD.

Better to do migration manually, this way you know if it was successful or if any new customization is needed.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am checking back to see if my post helped you with your problem. I admit, as others have mentioned too, that I prefer to move my custom features and settings manually also. I prefer to know where things are placed, and it gives me some control over how things are moved. Please add a post with your results so other Forum users can benefit.

Thanks for all your help.  It sounds like there is no way to recover my settings from 2015 to the updated version.  I'm going to get everything set up manually, in the new version.

HI @Anonymous,

I believe it is still possible to migrate the settings but it is likely to be more involved than it is really worth.  I did include a couple of links in Post #2 that describe the process.
