Cross Section NOT Retaining Original Colors

Hello.

I have just created a Cross Section (Using Section Plane etc) of a 3D solid that contains multiple colors, BUT when the section block is generated, the block loses the multiple colors of its originator and changes to ONE color. The default is grey but when searching through various settings, it only allows the section block to have one color.

Is there a way (or a setting i have missed) in which I can generate a section and Retain its original colors?

Thank you in Advance.

J.

Hi @jaspal_sandhu1,

Have you tried setting the colors to Bylayer in the section settings?  If you are willing to share your model along with the section planes i am happy to take a look at this for you.

Hi John

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, I've already tried this method but the section cut uses the color specified By Layer which it applies to all objects within that section.

I've attached a simplified model which contains a 3D model showing the Section Planes and along side that a series of sections cut using the planes but in solid colors, not of that original model.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @jaspal_sandhu1

Try first in the Section Settings to set the layer for Insersection Boundary  to *LayerByObjectIntersectionBoundary.  This seems to work on my side with all the other color settings set to Bylayer.

Hi @john.vellek

Thanks for your help. In all the years I've been using AutoCAD (Double Figures) I've never seen that 'LayerbyObject' option in the section settings. Maybe I should have scrolled up rather than down. It also means ill have to make sure everything is on its own individual layer with a given color. Time consuming but important.

Kind regards

Jas.

Once upon a time it was automatic! I don't remember which version it changed from, but when generating a 3D Section (from sectionplan) the colors of the objects were the original ones! There was no need to define new layers.
