Create or edit a line type

Campshow

At my wits end.  Have tried to create or edit an existing line type (I need a linetype with an "E" for electric and one with "W" for water.  Why these don't already exist, but an "HW" for hot water is there is beyond me.  Anyway, no matter what I do, I can't create a new linetype or edit the existing one.  I tried editing the ACAD.lin file (by changing the "HW" to "W" and it doesn't appear to save. Iv'e tried to "save as" but a .Lin type file doesn't appear as an option. I tried creating a new one but it doesn't work. Iv'e read and reread the existing tutorials and there just seems to be a step or two missing.  When I got to load a new linetype, my created linetype is not on the list.

Please tell me what I am missing.

TIA

Mike

You should upload the new linetype definition so people can see why it doesn't work.

You most likely edited the wrong ACAD.LIN (or is it ACADISO.LIN?): there are many on your PC.

While your AutoCAD is up, copy/paste this into your commandline and see the actual file's location to edit

(findfile "acad.lin")

OR if you are not drafting in inches/feet then

(findfile "acadiso.lin")

And remember, you need to use LINETYPE command's LOAD button to reload that LIN file before you can find and use the new one you created by just changing the letters.

If you have multiple linetypes of this type, you can simplify the definition process with the LTfly utility (free). See:
