Consultant PLotting set ups

I am having a problem when I get a consultants drawings and try to plot them. Once I have the Plot dialog box up. In the upper right corner under Plot Style Table, I will see in the pull town my constants plot style but it will say (can not find) next to it.  I use the pull down and the only other plot styles I find are autocad defaults, but not any of my plot styles.  I tried  to pick <previous plot> Page Set Up - Name.   One of my plot styles does appear then but again it says next to that style "Can not find".  I then tried to import one of my own plot styles again through the "Plot Style Table" in the pull down under "new".  This new command will only give you the options of looking for/loading PCP and PC2 files.  My plot style files are all .ctb files and there are no option for them.  I tried to go to the Plot Style Table Editor but I get the same pcp vrs ctb problem.

My problem is the computer will only print my consultants drawings in color and this makes the drawings very difficult to read.  I tried both the Autodesk-MONO.stp and Monochrome.stp defaults but they still print in color.  I tried going into the layers table and changing all the "Plot Styles" to black and I still get color.

In addition to my consultants drawing I also have one of my drawings also open.  I go to that drawing. I can plot to my styles perfectly in black and white.  Click the tab and go back to my consultants.  No can do color all the way.

I have even gone back and checked the Autocad default directories that hold plot styles, and yes my plot styles are right there next to autocad standard default.

Con anyone help me?  My work around is to open a brand new file in my system and then copy to clip board from my constants drawings and paste into my new file.  it works but is a royal pain in the #%&$#.
