com surrogate error

I am getting "com surrogate errors" when I open a folder with drawings, not all of the drawings mind you but just a few, for example I am currently looking at has 49 drawings and 4 of them gave me "com surrogate error" and just display a autocad drawing icon the rest show the proper thumbnail of the drawing.

It is only folder with drawings that give me the "com surrogate error"

It does not happen with any other file types just AutoCAD drawings.

I have flushed the icon cache and no help.

Any ideas

Windows 7 64Bit version

And yes it have rebuilt the icon cache. to no avail

and yes it's only the AutoCAD thumbnails that are an issue

PDF and Solidworks icons are fine with no errors

I also meant to ask what is your AutoCAD variant and year number: what is it?

What changed in Win7? Did you update video card drivers, or install an new or updated app, or start using VAULT? Or is this a new install of AutoCAD?

Hello again,

No new cards or installs that I know of.

No Vault

Major programs and install dates:

Autocad 2018 installed 3/22/17

Solidworks 2017 installed 12/8/16

Solidworks was giving me a message to update my video drive a few months ago

I let it update but had issues with graphics. So I rolled back the driver.

so that may be when it issue started.

Remember i did flush and rebuild the icon cache and no help

Also it is only the Autocad icon thumbnails that cause a error to pop.

Thank you all for trying

IT said that there is no issues with this installation of windows 7 64Bit on this machine.

The fact is that only the AutoCAD app that causes the fault. They may try to reinstall AutoCAD for me.

Oh well I know this IT team and they never do clean installs so I am in for more issues I am sure.

Thanks again for everyone who replied on this issue.

P.S. i have tried everything that Microsoft has given me to try to fix this issue. but none of them worked.
