Problem with Section Views

Been having a problem generating sections from base views.  See attached drawing.  Simple 3d solid.  I can generate base views in paper space easily enough, but when I go to create a section, the program just generates another projected view, not a section.  Anyone know how to fix this?  Already rebooted the computer, usually helps weird glitches but that didn't work....

Hi @sfiforeman,

Before I look at this can you tell me which version of AutoCAD you are using?  I don't want to use something different as the Inventor engine that does this functionality doesn't work backwards.

[EdIt] I did try this in AutoCAD 2019, running a REGEN3 and a BREP on the model first. Then, I switched to the layout and recreated the A-A section and it worked fine for me.

You have objects in MS that are frozen, but they are part of the original selection set for the base view.  If you thaw all layers and erase those objects then your views will work correctly.

I'm running CAD 2019.  Weird, the screenshot you posted after running regen3 and brep doesn't show a section view of the object.  I did try running those 2 commands and nothing changed for me.... But now it seems everything is screwed up.  Paperspace shows a hole in the solid, but the hole doesn't appear in model space.  I reattached the file with notes in paperspace.  Is this an "uninstall then reinstall CAD" kind of problem?

Nothing wrong with your install, see message 3 instead.  You have frozen objects that are a part of the selection set for the baseviews.  You should select the objects you want for baseviews from now on IF there are other objects in MS, and adding objects when choosing to use all MS objects may also cause problems.

I opened your test section file, created my own views and then a section.  It worked!  so what's different between your file and mine?

Hi @sfiforeman,

Quite honestly, I could not tell the difference. I simply copied your model to a new clean file and everything behaves!

Copying the model leaves the frozen objects that were included in the baseview behind, that is why this works.  See post #3 also.

Hi @GrantsPirate,

I see some layers in the original file from the OP that are off (not frozen).  Thawing them made no difference when i tried to correct the views.

Yes turn layers on not thaw, erase all but the one object, everything is good.  Viewbase with MS rather than the one object was chosen originally, causing the problem with the section while the object's layers were off, etc.  Screencast attached.
