See attached vid.

Everything is grey or white and not showing the color by layer.

Objects are 3D solids, not blocks

Object properties are colored "by Layer"

I am in model space

PAGESETUP: Plot stye table = none, Display plot styles box is unchecked

PROPERTIES: Plot style tabe = none, Plot Style =by color

any guesses?

I created a test layer and was able to draw a magenta rectangle

changing the layer color changes the rectangle, but changing the color of the other layers doesnt change them. (but the outline color when hovering over [selection] DOES change)

EDIT: It appears that making new layers and transfering objects to these new layers lets them display the layer color. so that is a work around, but id like to understand what is going on.

do a match properties with your magenta rectangle and see if the colors change.

Yes, this is equivalent to moving them to a new layer, which we have already discovered is a work around.

ok, compare what changes in the properties palette before and after you do a match properties.

Unfortanely, i am not permitted to post actual work files. ive just used the workaround to get everything displayed how I would like, i guess the WHY of it is going to have to remain a mystery

I understand.

Have you tried changing visual styles to see if that makes a difference?

no, I just moved everything to new layers and gave up on trying to find out what it was.
