Just loaded AutoCad 2022 today and noticed that the X at the top-right for closing a drawing (not the other X for closing AutoCad) does not seem to work. Is the bug?

It works for me. Can you provide more specifics about your setup, perhaps? Try closing the program and reopening it to see if that resolves the issue maybe?
Hi,
A screenshot image will help more to see what you're talking about ?

Hi,
work well for me, for both states (menubar on and off).

Following up, I work with the ribbon turned off and the menubar turned on typically. I tried closing the menubar and opening the ribbon, and then it worked. But with my usual setup, the X on the menubar will turn red when I hover over it and blink when I click it, but nothing happens.
We have the same issue at our company. Most users prefer the menubar vs the ribbon. I determined that if you have the Start tab closed (startmode = 0, which is how all of our users prefer it) then the close button (and minimize and restore/maximize buttons) will not work. If you have startmode set to 1, then the buttons work fine.
If that's the case, it looks like users will have to close drawings from the Menubar (File > Close) or use a keyboard shortcut until Autodesk can fix this issue. I suspect using the Menubar to close drawings wouldn't be a huge inconvenience if users are already accustomed to using the Menubar for everything else.
Thanks Scott! That did it. I don't even know what the Start Tab is, and when I turn it on, I don't see any difference, maybe because my ribbon is off and my menubar is on. So for me, there's no down side.
Hi All,
Thank you for reporting this issue. I am looking at it now. @ScottIconLegacy and @Anonymous - are both of you on dual monitors also? I laid out my screen as Scott described and do not have it blocked on a single screen, but I am noticing from a few other conversations on the problem that it may require 2 monitors. Just trying to see if anyone is hitting this problem with a single monitor (and if yes which resolution).
Thanks for the extra info.
We have the issue with both dual monitor and single monitor setups (combinations of 27" and 24" monitors running at 1980x1080). Going out on limb, but I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the new feature where you can drag a tab to another monitor. We've had the Start tab turned off (startmode set to 0) ever since it was first introduced and this was the first we've had an issue with the drawing minimize, restore/maximize, and close buttons.
Thanks for the extra info. I should be able to see it then (I only have one monitor because of working from home).
Do you mind adding a screen shot as an example. I am set up the same way as you are, but want to make sure I have all the other details the same.
Thanks for the extra info. We are able to see the problem now. It looks like it comes and goes whether it shows, responds, and can be restored. We'll look into it more.
I have a laptop, but I'm working with a single 27" 4k monitor and the lid is usually closed on the laptop. As I said, changing Startmode to 0 fixed the problem, and I didn't see any other changes that came with that - except now I do. The only reason I didn't see the Start Screen when I opened AutoCad was that back in 2018 (I think), I added "CleanscreenOn CleanscreenOff" to my Startup to fix another old problem (AutoCad wouldn't start in a maximized state until I did that). Unfortunately however I now see that Start Screen every time I close a drawing.
Hi Jack,
You can close the drawing by click the "X" in the filetab even the startmode=0
The other way is to drag the drawing out by drag the file tab of the it. Then you can close it.
It's the new feature in AutoCAD 2022: Floating drawing windows.
OK, now that I have the Start Tab turned on (startmode = 1), I've found another annoyance: If I want to toggle back and forth between open drawings using ctrl-tab, the Startup Screen is now in the rotation. I really don't want that! Any way around it?
@Anonymous
I think your only workaround until the bug is fixed is to turn the Start Tab back off and use the Menubar (File > Close) or a keyboard shortcut to close drawings. You may find a one-handed keyboard shortcut to be more efficient than precisely clicking on a tiny "X" beneath another "X" you don't want to click.
Edit: as noted in the following post, clicking on the "X" in the File Tabs would be another workaround option.
I agree. I'll just ask everyone to hit the x on the File Tabs instead of the one in the corner. That's similar to some other programs, so maybe people will only grumble about it for about a month.
