Change the Inventor Project path in Autocad for Viewbase

I am using Autocad 2016 to detail Inventor 2016 assemblies using the viewbase from file command.  I receive a "Base View - Unresolved" message that tells me to change the active project file.  I cannot figure out how to change the Inventor project file in Autocad.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

Hi @Anonymous

I am sorry that you are having this problem. A quick test is to place one of the inventor files in the same location as your drawing file.  Then run Viewbase (from file) and see if it can successfully work with the file.

When I start Viewbase (in AutoCAD 2016) since I have nothing modelspace it automatically opens a dialog letting me select the Inventor file. Can you try this with a new (empty) file?

Hi John-

That is how I have tried to do that, with a completely empty file.  It does default to "select file".  I just tried it in the same folder as the Inventor assy and it still will not let bring in the view.

Above is the warning i receive.

Above is the dialogue box i receive when i try to open an autocad file that uses viewbases of inventor assemblies when the project in autocad is not set to the inventor project that created the viewbases.   (I hope you can follow that.)

The above is the dialog box that you can change the inventor project file in autocad, but i can only find this box when i open an existing autocad file which needs a different project than what it is set to.  I tried looking back in the command line to see if i could tell what prompts this but to no avail.

On a side note, Autocad mechanical (which our company does not use) has a button on the lower right that allows you to select different projects.  That is how I made these files.  If i change the path in mechanical, close it and open Autocad the path has changed in Autocad.  That is how i created these files but it is a pain in the hinder to do that.

Thank-you for the reply.

Hi @Anonymous,

Unresolved references...hmmmm

Can you zip up your Inventor file ( sample one is fine) I want to see if I can bring it into my AutoCAD. It sounds as if the Inventor files have references that aren't found.

Have you tried changing the path with VIEWSETPROJ?

Here is an article I just found that might be worth taking a look at as well.

Thanks John!  VIEWSETPROJ was exactly the command I was looking for.

Works like a charm now!

On a side note, there were no unresolved references, just needed to point autocad to the correct project and all were found.
