Cant flip part on axis

Pretty new to this. But trying to make an entertainment center, and I want to extend a part, but only a part of it to make a shelf. I tried putting a rectangle on it but the rectangle is facing up and down and I cant get it to face left or right. Help ;-;

Use one of the Orbit commands:

Click on the VIEWCUBE.

I think you need to use the UCS command to orient the coordinate system so that you can make the shelf.

Optionally, model a BOX at 0,0,0 for the shelf and then move it into position.

To flip the rectangle, change your Workspace to '3D Modeling' then do this:
