Cannot open DWG file... Corrupt?

Cannot open DWG file... Corrupt?

I was working on a DWG file in AutoCAD 2015 and I left the program open and I cannot remember if I closed the program or if it closed by itself (the computer may have restarted to update).

I returned to the file today but it will not open. It loads about halfway before hanging AutoCAD.

Other DWG files work fine. I tried repairing the DWG using the RECOVER, RECOVERALL, INSERT & EXPLODE commands etc...

I've only opened this file on this install of AutoCAD and can't remember if changed any settings (but don't think so).

Is the file corrupt? Can I recover it? Are there older versions somewhere?

Thank you :cara_con_una_leve_sonrisa:

Hi,

>> Are there older versions somewhere? <<

you can search in your local drive    C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\Temp or in your drawing folder . look for .bak file then rename the extension to .dwg and see if any chances.

Thanks for replying,

Found an old version in \Temp but am hoping to recover the latest
version... The BAK file is corrupt too.

If the drawing file (DWG) will not open at all:
Your drawing may show the message "Drawing file is not valid," display a message about errors being found, hang or crash during the open process, or simply may not appear in AutoCAD after you have selected to open it (i.e., you open it but all you ever see is the default "Drawing1.dwg" or another file that you currently have open).

Refer to Error: "Drawing file is not valid" when opening a file in AutoCAD if you receive the "Drawing file is not valid" error when opening the DWG file.
You might have leftover .dwl or dwl2 files in the folder directory. These are two hidden files that have the same name as the .dwg file but with the extensions .dwl and .dwl2. In the Windows Control Panel, go to Folder Options. On the View tab, turn on the option to show hidden files. You can then go back to the folder directory and delete the .dwl and .dwl2 files if they are found alongside your DWG file. Attempt to open the DWG again.

Can you post the drawing here? I can try to Query it with AutoCAD MAP 3D to see if I can pull anything out of it.

The file contains my clients information which I don't feel comfortable
sharing. I've nearly redrawn all the changes anyway.
Thank you for the help :cara_con_una_leve_sonrisa:
