Can't trim with an edge

I want to draw on a flat face. i put the UCS on the face's surface, drew a line and can't trim with the edge of the face, the TRIM command says "not a valid edge"

That's a statement, not a question, isn't it?

The command tells you, that it can't work with edges of a 3D-Face.

If you need a edge at that position draw a line along the 3D-Face border and use the line as cutting edge.
