Can't select objects in tiled viewport with Front View

When I have tiled viewports I can select objects in all the different ways in Top View. When I switch to the Front view viewport and go to draw a selection window or crossing window instead of getting a selection box I get a dashed line that does nothing. Individual selection does not work either. 

In the top view viewport my command line shows and I can select objects :

"Command: Specify opposite corner or [Fence/WPolygon/CPolygon]:"

In the front view viewport my command line shows"

"Command: Specify opposite corner: Specify opposite corner:" 

Running Autodesk Fabrication CADmep 2018.0.2

I never had this issue until about a week ago, I've restarted and rebooted with no result and haven't found a reason or solution online.

I forgot to mention left and right views in the second viewport work as intended.  As well as front view with a single viewport.

What happens if you change the UCS to VIEW and then try to select objects?

It has no effect on the issue if the USC is in view or World.

Figured out the culprit - I was cleaning the drawing up and when I detached the 3 xrefs the various selections started functioning again. Not sure how or why an Xref would affect the front facing tiled viewport.

I reloaded the Xrefs, and object selection is working again, so I guess it was just a gremlin.
