Can't enable hardware acceleration

Hi all,

I have recently had to have a fresh install of Windows on my PC which naturally has led to a fresh install of AutoCAD and Revit too. Previously I was running the 2022 versions of both applications on Windows 11 with no problems. This time, I have installed the 2022 and 2023 versions but can't get the hardware acceleration to work - the option is greyed out.

I have tried the fixes in this link but I am struggling with two issues:

  • I do not have the Certification file in the linked location. I also do not have any AutoCAD folders in the Public --> Autodesk folder
  • I do not have a "FirstRun" entry in my registry under "3DGS Configuration" - I'm sure you'll forgive me for not wanting to fiddle with anything else in the registry

Any advice is much appreciated!

And your super secret video card/driver/OS now are...? 😉

Have you installed the 2022.1.2 and the 2023.0.1 Updates yet? ABOUT command will confirm what you have installed. If not, get it from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards.

If that did not help... Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart AutoCAD/LT2022-2023: reverting to DirectX11 fixes similar problems for most users.

If all that id not help, your system/video card is not capable to run the programs fully. Start a support ticket through your subscription portal as explained here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/users-software/support-options#:~....

Thanks Pendean. I can get 2022 to work with those fixes but 2023 still isn't.

I have noticed when I enter the GRAPHICSCONFIG set up that on 2022, DirectX 11 is classed as the Virtual Device. On 2023, the Virtual Device is listed as gdi16.hdi (Software). Not sure if this helps?

@christopher.barrass In R2023, your video card/drier is failing to meet AutoCAD's requirements: that's what that means.
Can't help you much more without screenshots of those two GRAPHICSCONFIG command pop-ups, as well as both ABOUT command pop-ups, and details about your OS.

Thanks or the screenshots.

Your video card/driver in R2023 does not meet the system requirements. Find newer/older drivers and test. But your underpowered Desktop PC is not going to see much of a performance boost either way, it has underlying limitations.
