Can someone please share their .arg file?

I started a new job and forgot to bring my .arg file. I can't remember how I had it configured, so if anyone would be kind enough to up load their's. So I can use it as a starting point, the one in ACAD is so bad...

Cheers

Hi,

welcome @Anonymous.autodesk.com!

As long as you don't show which version and language you do have as AutoCAD or if you are running a vertical (AutoCAD based) product like Mechanical, Civil3D, Map3D, Architecture,  .... you might get something, but does not help.

At least: when you start AutoCAD you get an AutoCAD profile with default settings created, modify it to your needs. What will help if anyone working completely different to you will send you an ARG file that does not fit to your type of work, to your workflows, to your branch, to your units, ....

If you start with the default profile and you miss some settings you can't find, that you are welcome to ask here, but it's the better way to know what you changed compared to not know what other people have changed in their profile 😉

So, how DO you import a profile? I've been importing them for years without any problems. In fact, we had a company default one that solved issues created by users.

@Anonymous, I strongly suggest that you make your own. It's doubtful that you will get anything that resembles what you had without providing a list of what settings are important to you.

Hi, I meant problems might happen as in the Ribbon for example, after set a profile recently imported as current, the content of the ribbon could desappear, that´s why I recommend to create your own to fit all your needs

Ribbon doesn't disappear as such.  Changing a profile can mean changing the Main and Enterprise CUIx files.  Since those both control which workspaces are available, and workspaces control not only whether the Ribbon is shown or hidden but what elements it contains, changing a profile also requires selecting a workspace from one provided in the new files.

@Anonymous - as you are starting a new job you *really* should be starting with the set-up provided by the employer.  That is more than likely the one you are expected to start with and tweak to your individual needs.  You need to check to see if they are using their own CUIx files and other customization, for example.

Not the Ribbon, the content inside the Ribbon, it is not a big deal but for somebody new in AutoCAD it could be scary

Thanks anyway, the company does not have anything set up and the standard out of the box AutoCad looks totally different to anything I am used to... almost unusable.

I don't know where to start in getting it back to being useful.

Hi,

>> AutoCad looks totally different to anything I am used to... almost unusable

That does not help us now to give any suggestions.

We don't know what you had before (not a version of AutoCAD, not a type of AutoCAD if it was a vertical product).

We don't know your current version or type of AutoCAD.

We don't know why you think it's almost unusable (whereas I guess >70% of the AutoCAD are working with the default settings of AutoCAD) ... what is it that blocks you from working. If you descibe it we might have ideas about how to come more close to what you are missing and how you can get it back.

I don't know how to explain, thanks anyway...Man Happy

I used the same version but it looks nothing like what I am using now... Mainly the menus and the look of it was much nicer. I used another guy's .arg I will have try and get a copy. I don't how anyone can use it out of the box.

Cheers

At home now and forgot my password (which is connected to a defunct email account.... just another computer frustration for today) so I am logged in as "2"

I am on 2016, and much prefer the older layout there are just too many options now and when turning some off you invariably turn off useful options.

Hi,

>> I don't know how to explain, thanks anyway..

Create a screenshot from your AutoCAD, mark the areas you can't work with.

Go to internet and search for screenshots from others showing AutoCAD in a way like you where used to it.

Just as an idea ... you don't like the ribbons and you are searching for classic interface, well ... look to >>>that article<<<

Hi,

Well, the screenshot as well as the video shows both similar interfaces (both use ribbon and commandline) ... what is different that makes your AutoCAD "unusable"?

Use a marker or something that shows us the difference.

When you first load and open Autocad 2016 and click on Mechanical... When I get back to work Monday I will take a screenshot ... it's horrible all squashed up and arrows pointing down at an angle so you have click on n arrow to see the part of the Ribbon with icons on it

Hi,

try that:

And when it's as you like then save your workspace. 😉
