Can not open a .dwg file on server

Yesterday I was working in a .dwg file on our server.  Today when I tried to open this same file, I received a warning stating that it was open by another user.  Our system is set up to let you know who has the drawing open (so, you can ask that individual to close that drawing) but this time no one was listed.  This drawing is not set up under Options as a "Read Only" file but I opened it as such and did a "Save As", renamed it and then went to the server to try to delete the problem file.  I got a message stating that this original file could not be deleted because it was open in A360.  Checked A360 and it was not open there.  How can I get rid of this problem file?  I am at a loss here; please help.

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the community!

I'd like to get a bit more information from you if possible.

  • Has this type of issue happened in the past?
  • What AutoCAD release are you working in?
  • Windows environment?
  • Are there other seats in office having the same issue with opening files from the server?
  • Is it one file or all files that are behaving like this in your environment?

Log out of A360 in AutoCAD on your office and home PC (or someone else' home PC) and see if your problem with file access goes away.

Have you consulted your I.T. staff yet? you should be.

Hi Dean,

I am not logged into A360 (not then or now) but our IT guys will be informed.  I was just hoping this was something I could handle on my own.  Thanks for your help and have a great weekend.

Following up on this thread to see if you were able to resolve you drawing issue. If you have the time to post back and share what worked that would be great.

If you are still having a problem opening up a drawing from your sever post back and provide any additional information that might help.

Thanks.

Good afternoon,

Right now the only thing that "frees up the file" is shutting my work station down and starting it back up.  I know this is really not the "solution" but for now it's a "band-aid" that allows me to keep going.  I will let you know if I find our anything else.

Have a great day.

Marisa
