I need to add attribution (material, size, type, etc...) to Utility Lines and points in a CAD drawing for one of the local agencies we submit plans to.

I am including a sample drawing they sent me. If you pick on one of the lines there is data information added to the Properties box.

How do I add this type of data to a new utility drawing?

Hello,

Those data are called properties of the object (eg; layer, color, Line weight).

First of all the sample you provided only contains 2D objects. For 2D objects material is not required.

Because adding material to 2d does not provide any visual changes. But it will be displayed in the properties box at the selection time.

Appliying Layers (LA) helps you to identify the what the object represents.

Here is a short screencast to create these:

Take a look at these articles for more details:

Hi,

>>  If you pick on one of the lines there is data information added to the Properties box. <<

if you're asking for Quick Properties ( QP ) whwn QPMODE set to 1 . (see below image ) then you can add another properties to the dialog when you press the CUI button as shown below to find a another dialog appear . go the to the right two pane and select the CAD element (e.g line,circle,pline...etc) then select the properties that you want to add to the dialog.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. My issue goes much deeper than layer information. If you look at my pdf attachments I have outlined in red the type of

Data/Attributes I need to add to all Utility Lines and points in my new drawings. The drawing I had attached was an example the City sent me.

Can you help?

Thanks again.

FYI, this forum is for "vanilla" AutoCAD.  Your sample shows Civil3D which has a board here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-civil-3d/ct-p/66

Vertical products like Civil3D extend AutoCAD for their particular field (such as civil design, mapping, etc. for Civil3D).  That includes the ability to add and process more data than is found with AutoCAD.  You can't do that with plain AutoCAD OOTB (out of the box) without creating or purchasing customization.

Hi,

>> I have Civil3D, does that help?

Yes, MAP-ObjectData (shortened with OD in the property window) can be edited using these commands:

  • _ADEDEFDATA to defined an OD-table
  • _ADEATTACHDATA to assign a new record of a OD-table to an AutoCAD geometry entity
  • _ADEEDITDATA to edit existing data assigned to an object or

Hi,

>> HOW DO I CREATE MAP-OBJECT DATA IN CIVIL3D?

Have you seen (and read) the links I have defined in my previous post?

And please know that this Map3D-functionality is build in 1:1 in Civil 3D.

Generally

You first create an OD-table so the structure is defined what you want to have stored into the object, e.g. a table named "ELECTRICAL" with fields like VOLTAGE and CURRENT.

Then create a new row with data in that table and assign that row to an object.
