Bold/Fat Text when printing

Hello,

Ive recently had a new desktop and I didn't transfer my settings over from my old machine and now when I print drawings off all my text and dimensions appear bold/fat I've looked at lightweight on the printing settings however

that doesn't change it?

Could anyone please advise as it has a real impact when I print off my drawings and doesn't look as neat.

I have attached 2 drawings, one with the clear cut text from my previous settings and one with the bold text it now appears.

Have you messages about missing fonts ? Check message display.

Is the print run on the same device?

What kind of font is your text? Is it shx (stick lines eg Romans) or ttf (not dependent on lineweight eg Arial)?

  • If it's shx, check which ctb or stb file you are using and whether the text is still using the same lineweight (you might be using a ctb file with the same name but actually different settings inside the file). Try copying the ctb/stb files form your old machine to see if you get better results (NB if you're using plot style files from a network drive it should be the same on each computer - but I would still check the file. In the plot dialog, click the button next to the box where you pick the ctb to open it up.plot styles.JPG

  • If it's a ttf (True type font), check that your text is at elevation zero (Z position in Properties) and that the viewport is also looking at elevation zero (activate the viewport and look at 'Centre Z' under 'View' in the properties palette). Mismatch between the two can result in text looking bold on a plot. If you look closely here you can see it on screen before plotting:

@majder2007 @melissakimwood93  I can't tell if either one of you had a chance to try the already posted solutions above your posts that works well for 99% of users with this issue, here is the direct link if you need it

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/bold-fat-text-when-printing/m-p/8468240#M960963

If by change neither addresses the issues for you, here is how to open a support case with Autodesk if you are on subscription to seek out Autodesk Support's help, they can get into your PC and diagnose the issue better:
