Blocks vs WBlocks? When to create one or the other?

I am having a hard time understanding the differences between the two. So I made a block and gave it a name. In the .dwg that I am in, if I type ddinsert, the block appears with the name I gave it when I had created it using the block command. It is saved in a drawing on my desktop. So, then, when do I use WBlock? I want to place the drawing in a folder designated for only blocks, but I also want to know if it makes sense to create a WBlock now that I plan on putting it in a folder, with the given name I chose. I guess it is a dumb question because I'm not sure if I should have created the Wblock first, draw it, name it, save it, then block? Or the other way around. That is where I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated. The block, if it matters, is a dynamic block.

WBlock just "externalizes" your block, saves it to a separate .DWG file, making it easier to insert it into other drawings.

You can W and create a definition inside yuour drawing at first and store the block as a separate dwg at the same time by choosing the second option :

the 2 other ones will not create the definition block inside your drawing.

With B, off course, the definition is made.

That's it for the slight difference.

Don't make blocks too difficult. It is too easy 😎

My adice.

Hi,

In AutoCAD, the primary distinction is between BLOCK (internal definition) and WBLOCK (external write). Use BLOCK to group objects within the current drawing for reusability. Use WBLOCK to save a block as a separate .dwg file for use in other projects.

One big difference between the 2 is the use of Design Center. If you create "Blocks" (not "WBlocks") internally within a drawing, you'll be able to see them and insert them into other drawings using Design Center (command = ADCENTER).
