Block Editing Question

New AutoCAD user here.

I work with a drafter who's using an old 2004 copy of AutoCAD and when editing blocks it allows you to see the geometry outside the block and snap to specific features.

When editing in 2024, I do not have that luxury.

Is there a setting somewhere in AutoCAD 2024 that would allow me to see the geometry inside the drawing the block is located?

I've tried googling around, but I'm guessing I'm not getting the terms quite right to answer this.
