Beginner question: Mirroring

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello!

I'm trying to use the mirroring tool, and when I click my 'first point of mirroring line' I see the mirrored object, but when I need to select my second point, the mirrored object disappears when I move my mouse, and even if I click the same spot as the first mirror line, nothing happens and the object doesn't mirror.. someone help please!

even after i click my second point, it proceeds to ask me if i want to delete my source object, as if the mirroring worked

It could be your UCS or something else. Can you attach the file here for us to check?

Sounds like it’s working just fine. The mirror command requires you to establish the axis of symmetry. Hence, your need to input two separate points to serve as the mirror line. What you see after the first click is merely a preview of mirrored object. Keep going, complete the command.

Deleting a source object may, or may not, be beneficial. If you are drawing the seating layout of a church, your axis of symmetry would down the middle so you’d have pews on both sides of the aisle.

If you are designing a baseball glove you could make a ‘mirrored’ version of the glove, delete the source and save it as a second drawing. You’ll now have two separate designs, one for righties and another for lefties.

I used your uploaded drawing. Works for me. Your workflow, or your sequence steps, must be reexamined.

A knurled knob? Is that your design? If it is, investigate using Polar Array (don't confuse with rectangular array) to get the knurled effect, not mirror.
