Bearing and Distance Line Question

Hello,

I have AutoCAD 2024 and have a project due that requires all lines to be drawn by bearing and distance. I've updated to the correct Surveyor's Units, degrees and Feet. When I try to draw a line, I can enter my bearing and distance, but when I press Enter or Space bra, nothing happens and it asks me to input a point again. Please help, my entire project depends on it!

Are you entering it as a relative displacement, that is at [@] a bearing and distance from the latest point?

@34.5<N47d32'12"E

[That works even in a drawing in which the Units setting for angles is not Surveyor's Units.]

"I can enter my bearing and distance"

Exactly how did you enter the bearing and distance?

Use distance 1st or bearing first?

I picked an existing point as the start point. @Anonymous.66<N5d27'23"E. Drawing Units set to Decimal, 0.00 precision, Feet, Surveyors Units, Precision N 0d00'00"E

Check the LIMITS in your drawing.

These may be dumb questions, but I have to ask:

Are you in PLAN view in your current UCS?  Not looking at the world edge-wise?

And is the current Layer turned on?  [I don't know why anyone would want to do so, but it is possible to draw on a Layer that's turned off.]

And could it be that the current color is the same as the drawing background color?

An interesting thought, but I don't think that can be it.  If Limits checking is on, and I try to draw a Line starting outside the Limits, I get:

Command: L LINE
Specify first point:

**Outside limits

Specify first point: *Cancel*

But if that message is in fact going by but they didn't notice the particulars of it, and that's the problem, it would not be necessary to check what the Limits are [though they may want to], but only whether Limits checking is turned on [the appropriately-named LIMCHECK System Variable, or the option in the LIMITS command].

My wild thought, I'm not running my Autocad at this moment.

Does it happen on a new file?

Try with Dynamic Input.

I've checked limits, DYNMODE and DYNPROMPT, and layer is on. It still won't work and I get a red box around the bearing

The start of the assignment requires bearing and distance...so there's not much to it except some created layers, text styles and a point

UNITS, change your setting from Sur. Units to Deg/min/sec

For me, it works with any such settings -- Decimal degrees, Degree/minutes/seconds, Surveyor's units -- I can enter in Surveyor's units format under any of them, and it still works.

I found out that it was Decimal and the input was in feet.

That's why.

I goofed up big time today.

As you provided the drawing, the Zoom level is so far back that the distance you're talking about is nearly invisible.  And it seems to be grabbing your starting point with Osnap, or something.  If I turn off running Osnap, it works even Zoomed way out.  If I Zoom in to a reasonable sized viewing area, it works with Osnap turned on.
