Batting linetype display problem

Anonymous
Not applicable

I found some older posts on this topic, but none of them helped. I am using autocad 2013.

I have problems with batting linetype that I use to draw insulation. Since it's graphically really nice and readable, I don't want to change it.

I some drawings at some point it starts displaying the batting linetype as little dots instead of a curved insulation line. Sometimes I think it happens when I import some other geometry from other drawings, but not always.

Settings:

LTSCALE = 1.0

CELTSCALE = 1.0

PSLTSCALE = 1

MSLTSCALE = 1

Any idea how to fix this? See attached screen shot

Thank you

Hi,

I would try:

  • command _REGEN
  • command _3DCONFIG and turn off hardware acceleration

If that does not solve the issue please upload your dwg-file so we can look into the files settings and that objects with this linetype.

Thank you

It doesn't seem to help. I upload the file. The batting line are under layer SR.

Hi,

strange, I can reproduce the issue.

It looks like that file kills the existing loaded information from LTYPESHP.SHX for the AutoCAD session.

Why I'm thinking that show these steps:

  • start AutoCAD
  • create an empty drawing
  • command _LINETPYE ==> Load ==> select ACAD.LIN or ACADISO.LIN
  • load BATTING and use it
  • all works well

Now open your file

  • command _LINETPYE ==> File ==> select ACAD.LIN or ACADISO.LIN
  • ==> reports that linetypes are defect, those that use symbols from LTYPESHP.SHX (reason behind ... it does not find the symbols inside the LTYPESHP.SHX any more, no idea why)

Even worse, the file where we tested before the linetype, also can't display BATTING correct then.

To get a correct BATTING linetype shown again in a different drawing needs to restart AutoCAD

I have no idea whats going on here. Sorry to say that for now I don't have a workaround, even not inserting your file into a new one with an already loaded linetype BATTING.

PS: tested with AutoCAD 2020.1.2

Thank you,

yes I know, I have other drawings where batting works and having them opened with this one at the same time causes the problem there aswell.

Hi,

The problem is with the block, EXPLODE the block and PURGE the drawing save it and reopen it again. The linetype should be back to normal.

Hi,

Wow, any idea what's inside the block which makes other drawings defect with that linetype?

Anyway, you even don't need to explode the block, _PURGE and purging the unused linetypes is enough to get it working, then save the file, close AutoCAD, start AutoCAD and open that file ... looks good now.

Interesting thing to load one drawing and killing the linetypes of other open dwg-files though.

Even I have no clue of that. Once I did have the same issue and this trick worked then 🙂

Thank you,

Well I can't really purge the linetypes, even if I go directly into the linetype directory I can't delete all the not used ones.  Actually it says that they are all being used. WBLOCK didn't help. Any idea?

Hi,

I also was not able to purge ALL linetypes. The ones used in the dwg-file never can be cleaned out.

But I had then saved your dwg, closed AutoCAD, started AutoCAD and loaded the cleaned dwg-file ... linetype BATTING worked well then.

Purging linetypes, saving, reopening worked.  However, I did load ltypeshp.shx prior to that (since that is in the linetype definition) to see if it resolved things but failed to restart AutoCAD after that.  So not sure if that had anything to do with the fix.
