BASEVIEW not completely working

baseview.pngI have a 3D model in modelspace. When I go to my layout and make a BASEVIEW, only parts of the model come in. See image.

The color part on the cursor is how it appears like it will come in (half way through the BASEVIEW command) but when I finish the command it generates the view with only a few objects showing (the finished BASEVIEW is above the color part). I've checked layers, view properties, etc. I'm not sure what's going on.

Hi,

are the basic/original parts block-insertions ... which disappear later in the baseview? If so do they also disappear if you explode them?

If you copy and paste these cirical parts into a new drawing, does baseview then show the complete content?

Which version (and service pack) of AutoCAD do you use.

If you can upload the drawing (at least the critical parts), it could be helpful for us to play with that data.

Well, good to know great minds think alike...Smiley Happy

Using AutoCAD 2017, all up to date.

The parts showing are plain solid extrusions.

The parts not showing are plain solid extrusions, solids imported from Revit, blocks, and xrefs.

I've enjoyed using the Layout tools (BASEVIEW, etc.) because it has always worked great, even with xrefs and blocks, and pretty much any 3D object in modelspace. (not point clouds of course)

I've started a new drawing from scratch (no template) and pasted these objects into it and came up with the same results.

WBLOCKing is the same as well. Purge, Audit, also have no affect.

This happened last month and for the life of me I can't think of what I did to fix it. I almost posted the problem, but then tried something, and it worked...

Wish I would've posted the problem and then posted the solution!

Oddly, though, last month, the only thing that came through into the layout base view was a block of a motor which was in an Xref.

So I don't think it is entity related.

Hi @LyleHardin,

There are some known bugs with this command that I have been tracking for a short time. Can you attach the drawing so I can look and add it to my ammunition pile?

I'll have to strip some things out, layer & block names, etc. It's a confidential thing.
I'll try to upload it if I can find time to get that stuff renamed.

Hi @LyleHardin,

I just saw an update in this thread with a similar problem. One user claims to have a workaround but I haven't yet had time to test it.

Check it out to see if it helps.

It appears to have something to do with older blocks being inserted into the drawing. I have another drawing that has been working fine. I edited a part of it by inserting older 3D drawing parts into it. Horror of horrors! The layout views would not update properly! (And, of course, the project was due the next day.)

As much as I hated to do it, I exploded all the  blocks I had just inserted, did a good purge and audit and everything works well now. Whew!

Apparently it does have to do with blocks created by older versions of AutoCAD or from software other than AutoCAD. These old blocks affect the whole drawing and prevent other things from showing up.

Hello everybody. I have long suffered from the same problem. And I won. I wrote a small plugin that cures all known drawings. You can download for free here

I have a similar problem. When I create base views from model space on a sheet, the views are generated successfully but don't appear on the sheet. Rather they appear miles off the sheet in the ether. I have had minimal success getting the views back on the sheet. I have used base view with success int he past on 2017.

Marking as a solution the link to another post with at least 3 different solutions doesn't help narrow it down to the one that actually works.  Care to enlighten us as to which of the 3 or 4 mentioned actually helped you

Hi @GrantsPirate,

I agree.  The current solution for dealing with this issue is to rework any mirrored blocks that contain 3D solids and to scale the entire model by a factor of 1.0001.  These are the known workarounds that appear to work in most cases.

I know that these defects are actively being worked on by the team. I hope to be able to offer better suggestions and a better solution in the near future.

I will un-mark the previous solution although it did point customers to some possible workarounds that were available at the time.

Thanks for the catch!

I did scale by two and then by 0.5 the missing objects, then it worked.

Also with the issue of not having OSNAPS in paper space from a BASEVIEW.

Thanks
