Base View not showing all solids

Anonymous

Base view doesn't show all solids, tried copying the solids out into a new drawing but no joy. Not a big file easy to recreate but would like to know what has gone wrong in case it happens again.

Hi @Anonymous,

This is a known bug but a Community clever user posted this workaround which appears to work properly for me at least"

  • Turn OFF all used layers.
  • Update the views .
  • Then turn on one layer.  The missing parts should now show up in the updated view.
  • Repeat for as many layers as you have used

"Turn it off then turn it back on again"

I am sure I have heard that phrase before somewhere.

It hasn't completely solved the problem, as most of the parts are there with a few still missing. I will definitely remember this for future though.

Thank you

Hi tony_maz,

I did this process using AutoCAD 2017 on your sample drawing. To me it looks like everything is showing up. If this is not the case can you identify which parts are not? I am still trying to get to the root of the problem.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you

The original file was missing nearly all of the hidden box section steel work.

But now I have a New Problem. A colleague has produce a drawing using base views,capture2 then when I edited it the result was capture1.

Wasting a lot of time on this now, wish I hadn't gone to 2017

Hi @Anonymous,

I am sorry that you are still dealing with this. You can try this LISP routine to see if it helps. I am still trying to pursue these types of issues with the Dev team. Thank you for your patience.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you try this for me please?  Can you copy the elements that are getting left out into a new drawing, save the drawing, insert the parts back in as a block and then try the views?

Part of the problem I think is that the elements are created in a different (older) version. I hoping to find a way for them to be updated and then used in the model to be displayed correctly.

I think I have found the problem.

I started the model from scratch in 2017, and created a base view straight after defining the first solid. Then every time I created a new solid or manipulated a solid I went back and checked the base view. Everything was fine until I blocked a couple of items together, It was only then that the base view became corrupted. I the exploded the blocks and the base view corrected itself.

I tried this with the original model and the model from my colleague, both were fine in base view after exploding the blocks.

Though this gets base view to work I don't think this is a practical solution to larger files where blocks are essential.

John thanks for all your time and effort in this

Hi @Anonymous,

I am glad that this temporary process will perhaps keep you working. I will pass the additional information on to the Dev team.  Thanks for your patience.

Hi Tony,

While I am not at liberty to go into any real detail, I know that this issue is being actively worked on and I hope that I can offer some resolution in the near future.

Thank you and all other customers that are facing issues with this feature for your patience.

I'm having problems with Viewbase and blocked 3D solids. To explode the blocks for viewbase to work is counterproductive. I've not seen a resolution though there has been conversations about it. The second element is adjustable lineweights in the viewbase views. They are far too limited.

Hi @Anonymous,

As noted in a previous post in this thread, I can guarantee that the development group has been hard at work to address the Viewbase defects. This includes the mirrored block issue that you describe.

Please remain patient a bit longer as I hope that the resolution of this issue will be available in the near future.

I know this is an older thread but maybe others will see it.  In regards to the base views not showing objects after blocking them together, this makes sense if the view base was made by selecting objects rather than using everything in the model.  Creating a block effectively 'hides' the solids from the base view and the new object (a block) wasn't originally picked so it is excluded.

To update the base view, pick on it and use the Viewedit command, which is named Edit View in the Ribbon, then type E for sElect, this will take you to model space, select all objects or just the ones that are now blocks, hit enter.  The views will be updated.

Well, I'd agree with you but my view was based on 3D solid blocks to begin with. I made an adjustment to that block and then all of my views fell apart. I've also been able to get the views to work with blocks and then close the file. When i opened the same file, the views fell apart. If I explode the blocks, and I mean all of them, the views work again. So exploding blocks is the fix but it creates another problem. The blocks are exploded. Creating blocks helps to maintain accuracy, the main purpose of Autocad.

So you are saying that using the ViewEdit command and selecting again does not work for you?

I am testing on a fairly small drawing and all the solids were made with 2017.  Older solids, even from 2016 have had trouble with view base.

I am running 2017.1.1 update also, if you aren't fully updated I would recommend that you do that right away.

I did have trouble working on a 2016 drawing with 2017 and redid everything in 2017.  I wasn't happy about it and thought about staying with 2016 but I haven't had to revisit any other older drawings so far.  I haven't tried the older ones on 2017.1.1 but I will look for one or two now as a test.

Yeah, I've tried starting the viewbase command again and re selecting the items I want shown. This presents another problem. All of the connections between dims and annotations are broken. This creates multiple inaccuracies that at times are hard to find. This in turn creates great confusion and consternation when these drawings make it out into the shop. Like a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, the drawings are only as good as the errors not found.

This statement assumes the viewbase was successful in creating the drawing. I've had to rebuild the file from scratch at times to get it to work.

As for new or old files, I've had this problem on current 2017 built objects and with the latest version of autocad. If this is a 2016 to 2017 issue then wow that's a big problem. What, anything done in or before 2016 is lost? As if jobs stop on December 31st of every year. Sorry if this sounds flip but I can't accept this as a excuse.
