Autosnap Extension not allowing Midpoint

Hello everyone,

I have an issue in my newly installed AutoCAD LT 2020.  My problem is that I cannot use Center snap or Midpoint snap or Quadrant snap. It will not generate a grip + marker or/ and extension line for me to align my object with.  I can align objects with other objects using the 'Endpoint' osnap. Why is only Endpoint allowing 'Extension' lines for Alignment?

For example: I build a box using the 'Rectangle' command. I draw a horizontal line about 5 time the length of one face of the box.  I type 'M' (Move) and then grab my box at its top face using midpoint. I then move my object with 'Ortho (on)' and mouse over the midpoint of the line. The the midpoint triangle appears but not the snap point node or the + symbol at the midpoint and alignment extension line dose not appear.

Conversely if I were to move to the end of the line the Endpoint snap grip appears, the little + symbol is placed at the end of the line and an extension line appears and I can align my object to that endpoint at the same perpendicular height.

Previously in AutoCAD 2012 LT I could mouse over a Mid point and use it to align objects.

Is there a way I can get this to work again?

Aligning objects 'from' or 'to' mid points or centers of circles is something I do often in my electrical drawings.

Thanks so much,

Hi,

>> The the midpoint triangle appears but not the snap point

May I ask for details as I may misunderstand that .. you move an object (that is already moving with your cursor) and you move your cursor above a different object ... is that correct? If yes then you'll never get a grip point (blue) shown on the second object, only object snaps (green). And that was the same in 2012.

If I misunderstand something it might be more easy for us if you could share a video so we see what you are exactly doing (e.g. using free Autodesk Screencast >>>click<<<).

Yes I'm trying to get an alignment grip. or point the terminology may be the issue here. A crosshair will appear on a osnap setting when you mouse over it. Once you get that crosshair you will be able to align objects that you are currently moving to that area.

I checked my AutoCAD 2012 and it does work there. I'm glad I'm not imagining that.

Hi,

Object snap tracking can be toggled on/off with F11 key.

Is this what your missing?

Your sample is good, use the LINE command for the 5xlonger line, yes?

Please show us your settings

Command: _+dsettings

Tab 2

And: Is it possible to us us the same situation on your LT2020 Screen?

I am pretty sure you confuse two (or three) different features!

You need [F11] on, perhaps it is OFF and the case of your "endpoints working" is another feature!

?

You were right F11 was off. I turned that on and now I can get alignments to mid point.

YAY!

Thanks so much!
