autocad works slower when using an external monitor !?!!?

Hi there !

I'm working on Autodad 2025 on a Lenovo with an i9 processor and a NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 Max-Q graphic card.

I'm doing pretty basic  steel constructions 2D drawings and I have no problems when I work on the laptop but today I plugged my big EIZO EV2736W monitor.

The laptop doesn't have a DisplayPort slot and the monitor doesn't have a an HDMI slot so I used an HDMI cable with an HDMI>Displayport adaptor on the monitor side.

I use a single screen display (EIZO monitor) and Autocad is slow and have some lags, the cursor moves in a herky-jerky way and for exemple it's very difficult to stretch my drawing.

Anyone know why I have this issue ?

Thanks a lot !

Did you install 2025.1 update?

Try setting Gfxdx12 to 0 and restart AutoCAD

If still no difference then enter GraphicsConfig and change the 2d Display settings to another selection

Assuming there may be two video cards on board, make sure that you are using the right one

Is your laptop plugged into it's power brick and the light is on (aka it is getting power from your outlet)?

Which video card is your AutoCAD using as listed in GRAPHICSCONFIG command? Does it change when the other monitor is lugged in?
Do you have the 2025.1 update installed? the program's ABOUT command will confirm.

Did you try an HDMI/DP CABLE instead of an adaptor?

Thanks to you all for your help..!

First, I made a mistake...I?m still on 2023 and I?m updating  to 2025 right now.

I checked in my Graphics Settings and my video card is not recognized !!!!!

So first of all I'll update to 2025 and get back to you !

I just noticed that in my Autocad Graphics Config it seems that no NVIDIA is detected but this card appears in the Device Manager on Windows10.....

Weird !!!

If you are sure that is it... No Windows reinstall is often required, you need to ask your IT person/friend/colleague/PC repair shop to activate it if you don't feel comfortable (or not allowed to) doing so yourself https://community.spiceworks.com/t/windows-management-instrumentation-wmi-has-to-be-enabled-via-powe...

and

https://support.auvik.com/hc/en-us/articles/204610500-How-to-enable-WMI-monitoring-on-a-single-Windo...

Unless this is a server level setting as well, then only your IT can address.

Don't know if this will help but I recently had to order a Display Port to HDMI cable. During that process, I learned that they are directional. DP to HDMI is not the same as HDMI to DP. Maybe your adapter is directional. This doesn't mean that it won't work at all when installed improperly as there is some 2-way communication.

If you unplug the external monitor and then look at the Graphics config - does it list which GPU is used?

...but now I have another "small" problem that me and some other users had some years ago:

I'll browse topics to see if any solution has been found in the meanwhile !

Ah !

Rectangle pick box problem can be solved by  having tool palettes docked on the left and/or right of drawing window !
