AutoCAD to DAE

Hi,

I have a PV panels layout done on AutoCAD  that I'd like to import on the PVsyst software. However, PVsyst will only read 3ds or DAE files and it appears that exporting to FBX as an intermediary format is no longer an option with the 2019 release.

Would anyone know of another way to convert my layout to either DAE or 3ds format?

Hi,

since exporting to the 3DS file format has been deprecated in AutoCAD from the release 2007. The newly recommended format for exporting 3D data is FBX , please try FBXEXPORT command and see if it's help .

HI @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

You are correct that FBX format from AutoCAD in 2019 product is not available.  If you are on subscription though you can also install 2018 product that would allow Imad's suggestion to work.

Another option would be to utilize 3DS Max to open the DWG and then save in the correct format.

From AutoCAD you can also use DXFout to write a DXF file and then perhaps run this convertor to get to FBX. I have not tried it but it looks like it should work.
