AutoCAD Plotting issues with custom paper sizes!

Anonymous

Hello everyone

It's been 2 days since this issue started, it never happened before. In my company we use a HP Designjet T770 to plot, and we usually use custom sizes.

Now I have a problem , everytime I try to set a new format and save it AutoCad automatically set it to letter size. I'm thinking the PC3 might have too many formats saved in it, but I can't find anywhere how to empty it.

The steps I use to set the custom format and save it for later :

Go to print -> set the plotter -> co to properties -> choose format close to the size I want -> select custom -> set the name of the new format and the size -> and then ok to the main prin tab and finally print.

Those are the steps I'm using, and now it's not working anymore, everytime I try to set the format I like and save it AutoCad changes it to letter size for some reason.

I can't find anywhere on google a solution, if there is , then I'm sorry but please someone give me a solution.

Thank you

What does that mean exactly to the rest of us? Use AutoAD command names and functions, walk us through your steps in detail.

Hi @Anonymous,

From your description, it sounds like your PC3 file might actually have some errors in it.  When I set up custom paper sizes I don't like to put them all in one PC3.  In fact, I usually limit my PC3 to one paper size.  That way when it gets applied to a  page layout, the user only has the choice of the one paper size in the plot window.  This has eliminated a plethora of plotting errors for my users.

Can you attach a sample file with a pagesetup applied as well as your existing PC3 and PMP files for the plotter? I am happy to take a look to see if I can determine what might be causing this issue.

Hi @Anonymous,

I grabbed your PC3 and I am not seeing the same problem you are.  Your PC3 file seems to be fine. What happens if you apply a Page Setup to your layout with the desired paper size?

Again, I like to create a unique PC3 for different paper sizes and print conditions.  For instance, if you are selecting the DesignJet and using a 36" paper size from roll2 and want to print in landscape with a specific plot style, this is what I would configure for my PC3 to make sure the media  is the right size and pulling from the correct roll.

What are your most common paper sizes? Can you share a sample titleblock for that size along with a plot style? I would like to show how you might utilize my method to streamline your process a bit.

Hi John

I don't know how to send you that sample.

I tried to crate a new PC3 , but I can't find the plotter in the list HP Designjet T770, also can't find the HIF file.

Hi @Anonymous,

If your data needs to be private or confidential, please email it directly to me at john.vellek@autodesk.com and please include a link to this thread in your email.

If you do not see the Windows System printer in the list of devices, check in Options to see if you have Hide system printers selected.

Hey John

I might somehow fixed it... still looks a bit weird and snaps to letter size but when I change to different format ( ex 595x850 mm) and the back to the custom one I created ( ex 595x1250 mm)  it works for some reason.

I also tried to go to options as you instructed me to see if system printers are hidden and the box was unchecked.

The steps that might have fixed my issue:

1. go to add a plotter wizzard

2. create the default windows system printer

3. go back to autocad

3. create your custom size

4. press ok to get to mai plot screen

5. apply to layout.

I will see how this goes and comeback with and answer later today or maybe Monday, I have to print 55 custom sized plans.

John , please if you can send me the steps on how to create a PC3 for each size I would be very happy.

Thanks again.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am happy to make a short video of this process.  Can you share some sample titleblocks and perhaps your plot style that you typically use?  That way it might make a bit more sense to you as I go through this process.

If your data needs to be private or confidential, please email it directly to me at john.vellek@autodesk.com and please include a link to this thread in your email.

Hi @Anonymous,

I was hoping you would come back and share some data but I have this older video that should help you to create unique PC3 files for different paper sizes.

Hello John

Sorry for so late response , I had a very busy week with some projects we had to finish.

I managed to fix (somehow) by creating a new PC3 file with Add a plotter wizard.

The only issue I had with this option is that the plotter wizard could not find my version of HP plotter, then I found on google on some forums that you can create a PC3 file for HP products and if the wizard doesn't show your HP product version just choose the closest to yours and will work, so I did.

Now I'm plotting again on any size I want, so it works for now...like a temporary fix.

The issue that I have with my plotter PC3 , I think it's harddrive might be full with custom sizes I created all this time and might need some cleaning.

Thanks again for help.
