AutoCAD - OSNAP Point going to XY plane and not to endpoint selected

I've searched the forums for this and thought I had the solution.

Dynamic UCS is off

I have all OSNAPs off

Visual Style = 2D Wireframe

Yet, no matter the point I select, the point snaps to the plane that the UCS is sitting on. I'm unable to measure anything in the Z direction it seems. Every point that is selected snaps to the XY plane.

Even ID a point that is clearly has a Z-Value tells me that point is at Z=0.

Please help, I know I have a setting somewhere that shouldn't be selected, just need help finding it.

So this issue is specific to the file itself. I go into a blank file and draw a line from 0,0,0 to 0,0,25 and then do a dist from endpoint to endpoint, it comes back at 25. However, in the file I'm having issues with, I do the same thing, the distance comes back at 0.

Check the OSNAPZ variable and make sure it is 0

Well....there is definitely something going on with the file. I've file was over 100mb. I've deleted everything, and am left with 80 objects. All of which are lines, circles, and arcs and yet the file size is over 80mb. Something is wrong. I've purged, I've done an erase all and then removed these objects, yet the file size is grossly too much. I'm at a loss as to what else to do to make this file more manageable.

Draw a line.

WBLOCK it to a new file. I suspect everything got left behind, and your new file only has that line in it.

That's how you 'delete everything' for real: repeat and select only what you wanted to keep from that 100MB file if that was your original intent.

your model have Z  elevation <its not flat>

 I Can measure in all direction, planes, try UCS--> W

Regarding drawing a pline, line, mline  with 3 coordonates i do not  know, try 3dpoly command. 

in AutoCAD 3D if you need to draw auxiliary lines , shapes etc you need to change the UCS to view you need

3Dosnap must be activated to osnap to 3D nodes.

your DWG have modifyd BASE. i do not know if it matters,

That's how your BASE and PLAN commands are set: what other behavior are you trying to achieve exactly if I may ask?

Also, see attached: "new block" is a WBLOCK of your posted file, about as small as it will ever get with that content intact in it that is that busy (you have some good detailed blocks in there). "new empty" is me erasing everything in that 'wblock' file and saving it. Way smaller.

This is what is happening. I issue the dist command, select an endpoint in the red circle, and instead of selecting that point, it snaps to where the point lies (green circle) on the XY plane where the UCS is. I do not want that. I want the point I selected to be the point, not the equivalent in the XY plane.

BASE Command just says 0,0,0. Not sure how that stops AutoCAD from going to the XY plane.

I just want the point I select to stay selected.

Ok, so when I open the file in AutoCAD 2021, the issue does not present itself. It seems to be something with AutoCAD 2023 Mechanical.

Why on earth would that make a difference? It's a setting in Mechanical that is doing this. What is the setting?

AutoCAD Mechanical 2021, it works as expected.
