AutoCAD not running smoothly

AutoCAD not running smoothly

I'm using the AutoCAD 2020 student version on a 2019 Dell G3 (Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 512 GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB, Windows 10) and it keeps getting sticky. I've tried the following already:
Clearing cache (didn't do anything)
Changing display to draft (worked but only temporarily)

Resetting the options to default (worked but only temporarily)

I'm relatively new to AutoCAD and I don't understand computers too well, but I know that what takes me 3 hours on this computer would take me half an hour on my school's computer running AutoCAD. Any suggestions for what I can do to make the program run more smoothly on my computer? Any suggestions with clear explanations how to do it would be helpful (I really don't understand computers)

Hi,

>> it keeps getting sticky

Does that happen with some specific drawings or also with new drawings having just 10 lines.

Can you please describe what exactly needs more time?

  • starting AutoCAD
  • loading/saving the drawing
  • zoom/pan
  • starting commands
  • using object snaps
  • ...

>> Changing display to draft

Don't know this setting, can you please show a screenshot so we know which setting this is?

It also stick with new drawings - I have a few drawings that are pretty large files and some that are pretty small, and the problem is consistent across the board.

When I say sticky, I mean zooming and commands (and maybe a few other things I'm forgetting). For example, something as simple as drawing a line that's the right length. It just doesn't go smoothly (it doesn't matter if I'm using the latop mouse or another mouse). Starting the program and saving files is fine.

The setting is IMAGEQUALITY --> Draft (screenshot attached)

Hi,

>> When I say sticky, I mean zooming

So you create a new drawing (based on an original AutoCAD template), draw 2 lines, use the mouse wheel to zoom a bit in and a bit out ... this is slow or the zoom show effects like interrupted?

>> and commands

In a new drawing, with disabled object snaps (<F3> and <F4> to disable both, osnap and 3d object snap) you can't click the startpoint then move the mouse and then click for the endpoint of the line and the mouse gets sticky here?

Please send us screenshots from dialogs of these 2 commands: _ABOUT and _GRAPHICSCONFIG

...and one screenshot of your complete AutoCAD application window.

Where do you store your files?

Turn off hardware acceleration in GRAPHICSCONFIG command, does that help?
Turn off DYNMODE, does the problem go away?
