AutoCAD - How to make Xref unselectable?

Hi all,

I am having trouble with my Xref as it has quite a few lines, and I always select it by accident.

Is there any way of working in the drawing without having to select the Xref, but still be able to find Osnaps on it?

I have tried putting my Xref on Defpoint and freezing Layer0 but it will lose all the snap references.

Also tried adding (ssget":L") as a command, but I might be doing it wrong as it doesn't work either...

Thanks heaps!

Hi!

Thank you very much for your post.

I installed successfully the plugin but when I opened Autocad nothing happens. I don't get any popup at the beginning  asking to load the plugin, and hence I tried to run the command XREFI but Autocad doesn't recognize it. Can you please help me with some guidance instructions, please.

Thanks in advance.

Although I have installed successfully the plugin (from downloads folder) I looked in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins and nothing is there...

Not there, should be here

c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\XrefToolExtra.Bundle\

As you ca see when trying to reinstall the plugin it is already installed...

In deed it's not there. Don't know if the installation is good but the fact is that it says that it is already installed.

Already checked the link information and other plugins are loaded and apparently working, so I'd say that's not a security issue. Running appautoloader\list I got:
C:\Users\N.MINAS\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Autodesk Save to Web and Mobile.bundle
C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Autodesk AppManager.bundle
C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\Autodesk FeaturedApps.bundle
That it is consistent with the plugins I've installed in my user.
Do you think that as the IT manager installed the pluggin remotely using his user the pluggin got installed in his account (user)? How do you advice me to reinstall it? The installer doesn't ask where to install but I'll ask again the IT manager to help me, and I'll check it...
Again thanks for your support and replies...

Does anyone have the *.bundle folder that the installer presumably creates in C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\ to copy/paste it directly to my folder. I don't know if this makes any sense but it seems to me a possible way to solve this?

Just to update the following up of my issue. I managed to enter the IT manager user in my PC, with him support, of course, and copied the .bundle folder to my user account, and the plugin started working. So I'd say that the installer should be corrected to allow the installer to choose the installation folder, because right now it installs the plugin inside the user that's running the installer. In my case, as the IT manager used his credentials to got permissions to install the plugin the folder is automatically created in his appdata's user folder.

I can't believe this ability is still not available in native Autocad. I used a different CAD program in school way back in the 80's which had a layer command called "visible but non-selectable" and it worked as such. 40 years later and Autocad still doesn't have it???

One workaround here, which isn't elegant, is to overlay two viewports and freeze the xref layers in the viewport you are working in. If you do need to select xref features for trim/extend boundaries, etc., just CTRL-R into the other viewport and work there for that command.

Start asking for it regularly and often, and rope in a few hundred other subscribers too: here is the link to do that
