AutoCAD - Hide crosshair cursor during selection box

In my older version of AutoCAD LT the crosshairs would disappear while creating a selection box which I grew accustomed too.  I would like to match that setting in my full version of AutoCAD 2023 but I can't find a way to do it. 

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Can you post a couple of screenshots showing us your crosshairs before and during?
Which older version please? In which commands? and confirm "selection box" please?

Before I start a command or perform a command that does not require a selection box, like one of the draw commands, the crosshairs are showing, see the "before" attachment.

After I create a selection box to do any command that requires a box to grab everything I want to affect, the crosshairs are still showing, see the "after attachment.

In my older version of 2013 LT the crosshairs would go away after I clicked and started dragging the boundary of a selection box, see "2013 LT" attachment.  I'd like to make the crosshairs go away just like that if possible.

Thanks for the screenshots and detailed reply: unfortunately it has been too long since I touched AutoCAD/LT2013 to remember any of that, but I've not had my CURSORSIZE variable set to 100 since the 1990s either (3 or 5 works fine for me and everyone in our offices).
