AutoCAD hangs when selecting first hatch in a session

When I open AutoCAD 2022, the first time I select any hatch the program hangs for about 20 seconds.  This behavior is not drawing-dependent; it only happens in the first drawing I open.  It doesn't hang again as long as I have the same session open.  This was happening in AutoCAD 2021 as well, but not before that.  I've been running AutoCAD on this same machine since 2018.  Your thoughts appreciated!

Do you have the 2022.1 update installed? ABOUT command will confirm if you do, it is required. Get it if not.
