Autocad freezes when selecting blocks

Good morning,

Is there anyone familiar with why would Autocad stall when selecting blocks for at least 20 seconds?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Does this happened in all CAD drawing files OR just in a certain one ?

Elaborate: nothing like that is happening to anyone else.
1) all files or just this one?
2) blocks or XREFs?
3) file is stored where?
4) ABOUT command lists what as your version of AutoCAD?
5) OS is....?

To add to @pendean comments -

6. Are there proxy objects in the drawing (for example, Civil 3D objects)?

7. Does this happen in a new empty drawing?

Hi,

It happens with other drawings also.

it is only happening with blocks.

It seems like it needs time to select the block.

Yes if I insert the blocks that I already have (doors and window blocks).]

I created new block consisting of two rectangles and it is still doing it. (in a new drawing)

All files , new and old.

Blocks and xrefs ( now that I tried editing xrefs )

Files are stored on one drive.

>>>...Files are stored on one drive....<<<
File location Lag most likely since R2020 is not new and your PC is not either: as a test, move the files to your PC, unplug from the internet/web/network, restart AutoCAD, then try to repeat the issue.

So I tried everything suggested and  it seems the solution was much simpler.

in the options menu on the selection tab the grips within blocks was selected and  the selection limit for grips was set to 150. I think this is what caused the problem.

I unchecked the show grips within blocks and set the object selection for display of grips to 50.

My problem was solved.

Thank you for anyone that reached out to help me.

Thank you for posting this solution.  I was having the same issue even without "Show Grips Within Blocks" being checked.  Reducing the limit from 100 to 25 solved the issue for me.

I'm having the same problem. However the above solutions are not working for me. I even unchecked show grips.

@vblevin Share your problem DWG file here, point to these objects, and also provide screenshots of your AutoCAD's ABOUT and GRAPHICSCONFIG commands pop-ups please.

It happens in all my DWG files, so I don't think it's file specific.

It started after I got a new computer and the latest cadLT install

Thanks for the file: no such issues in LT2025.1.1 here for me at all with your file.

have you tried everything listed here yet https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCAD-LT-When-se...

Also try this - Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero): a restart of your AutoCAD/LT2025 is required for it to take effect.

Consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables after that.

If still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort. Anything different?

I don't know how, but the problem magically went away and everything is running smoothly; without me doing anything.

This problem comes up for me about once every few months and then suddenly disappears one day. I have absolutely no idea why.
