AutoCad export to DXF aama or DXF astm

Hi,

Is it possible to export AutoCAD files to DXF AAMA or DXF ASTM format?

Those formats are mainly used in fashion industry.

Thank you in advance,

Stelle

Can you zip the DXF and then attach it ?

Modaris won't read the DWG but only the DXF.

Good Suggestion, lets see if that works:

Yes, lectra software will not read a dwg, but I can open the dwg and save it as a dxf to try.  It would not open by the way, I'm making changes now to make it work.

Well I got you DXF but I'm sorry to say that Modaris won't read it.

Unfortunately I'm not and I can only help you with telling you if your file will be read properly or not by Modaris.

I got it to work, two small problems with your file.  Lectra is very picky when it comes to importing files.

Problem 1: I know that text is supposed to go on layer 19, but the title block is the one exception.  Put it on layer 1.

Problem 2: The title block field names should not be in all caps, ie Piece Name: not PIECE NAME:

Attached is a working, portable file.

Fantastic, thanks so much for your help - I will use the advice you gave to work up the full patterns and maybe check again with @diego.galeano to test the files. This has been so useful!

Hi dkhayes117,

I sent the file to my manufacturer to test if they were able to open it, but they said they unable to, and sent the attached screen shot. I have attached the .dxf that sent to them, which I am pretty sure is exactly the one you sent me, unless something has gone wrong when I zipped it to send to them...

Any ideas?!

Not sure what is going on, but the first thing I noticed is they are trying to open a dxf in Adobe Acrobat???? Acrobat reads pdf files not dxf files! LOL

Hello

Im trying to make a dxf for Lectra from an autocad dwg. I follow rules about layers, then I dont understand what I need to make a block .  I need Block each part ( exaple : drills)  of one patern ( example a sleeve) and then make a block with all these blocks?

Hi.

The rules for an AAMA file are very strict. Either everything is correct or the file is useless.

If you have access to both Lectra Modaris and AutoCad you could use the file that is 2 messages up from yours which is a very simple model with just one piece as an example.

To tell you what is wrong with your file the expert here is @Anonymous . Let's hope is is still around.

I do not have access to AutoCad buy I do have Lectra Modaris and I could test if your DXF file is ok or not, if that is of any help to you.

You have two options: make all patterns into one block, or block each pattern indiviually.  If you make on block out of all the parts, this will work, but if the machine has a problem you cannot pick up where cut left off.  It will cut everything over again because it all one block. If you block each part, this will work if you give each block a unique name.  No need to block the blocks, just each part.  Also save as r12 dxf when finished.  If you have any missing lines or details in the pattern, please note that some layers can only have points or only lines on that layer, no other geometry is supported.  Make sure the part is closed as well.   Good luck.

I've worked my way through this thread trying to import dxf files into Modaris.

I could not make it work with my own files, the blocks would not be visible in Modaris for import. So I moved on to use files provided by dkhays117 as a working example to determine were I got stuck.

I tried exploding the block in dkhays118's file and recreate it on layer 0.

Saved the file as dxf r12

tried to import it.

The block I created is not visible.

Any insight regarding my issue would be greatly appreciated.

You can attach your dxf or dwg to the post and I can check it out for you.

Thank you for taking the time dkhayes117.

The most recent try was to open your samplepiece and re-save it on my machine and software with no alterations to blocks or geometry.

It does import without errors, but it is empty. I am starting to suspect that my first problem could be related to my dxf settings.

I have tried r12 "natural" and "lines&arcs".

I have attached your original file after being saved on my machine.

Thanks again for taking the time.
