I bought a new PC and installed inventor pro 2018 and autocad 2018. Inventor runs fine but autocad is choppy and tells me that my graphics card isnt supported and turns hardware acceleration on. The card i have is the nvidia geforce gtx 1050 2gb but the reccomended graphics specs are only 128mb so why is it running choppy?

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to Autodesk Community!

Can you please provide more details:

1) What Operating system is running on your machine?
2) Can you please share the error message screenshot over?
3) Just to confirm, can you use AutoCAD 2018 or not at all?

I'm guessing you have a dual graphics card system?

If that's the issue set the Gtx card to run AutoCAD using the nvidia suite instead of it defaulting to the 'general' card

I am running windows 10 64-bit home.

Graphics Card: NVidia GeForce GTX 1050, 2gb

Processor: 7th gen intel i7-7700 (quad core) @3.6-4.2 GHz

12 GB ram

The message only popped up the first time I started a new drawing. It told me something like "your graphics card is not supported by AutoCAD" (or something similar). It also told me that it turned on hardware acceleration, although I wouldn't need it I believe.

It was like a tan box that popped up in the lower right hand corner of the window.

I can use AutoCAD 2018 but it seems to be choppy and I don't want hardware acceleration on because I don't need it. can you tell me how to turn it off or how to make it recognize that my GPU can handle it without hardware acceleration?

bottom right hand corner of the main autocad window, there's a decal looks like a speedometer. or type graphicsconfig in the command bar.

I still think AutoCAD might be using your onboard intel 'general' graphics card though. the Gtx 1050 will only run when you 'need' it to. I have a dual graphics set-up with a 1070 card on a MSI laptop, since when you start autocad up initially it's not doing very much it looks at the general card and says "meh that's terrible" but then associated this card with autocad (pretty sure this is how it works).

Set your 1050 as default for AutoCAD in the nvidia suite and it should run better, as it will always run through the 1050.

Thank you, I am not exactly used to AutoCAD specifically, I do more of inventor stuff, so I don't know all of the controls and buttons yet.

I just need AutoCAD for studying for my engineering tests and its better if it runs smoothly.
