AutoCad Compare feature

Good Day all,

I am using ACAD2020 student version. I am teaching at a local college and I use the compare feature to grade the assignments.  I have been using it for a few weeks and it is very useful and easy to use.  For now I will explain, and I can post files later if need be.  A file a student sent in this week is doing something strange. Keep in mind that my correct drawing works perfect for all the other 60 students.  Basically the student's drawing left bottom is drawn at 0,0.   My drawing is also also at 0,0.  When I compare his to mine his shows up at 1.8920,0.5839?  If I swap and compare mine to his,  his is then -1.8920,-0.5839?

I cannot figure out why.   His print preview is all good and everything looks good???

Hi @Anonymous 

I guess the student changed the "BASE" to a different value. Open the drawing which your student sent and type in the command "BASE" and set it to 0,0,0 and then try the compare feature 🙂

Yes the students base was off by that same amount.   After resetting it, saving, and even restarting AutoCAD,  it still does the same thing.   I thought for sure that would fix it?

Any other ideas?

Hmm. Try to PURGE and AUDIT the drawing, then save the drawing. Now try comparing the drawings. Still the same issue? If yes, then please attach the drawing, so that we can check and help you out 🙂

Other than placement (PASTEORIGIN from student file into yours, color changed for clarity only) it looks like a great copy. Perhaps a video of you using the compare tool with this file (and yours) might be helpful.

That is not correct,

The bottom  2 left corners are 0,0  and should align perfectly,   and when it does that it will display as a white line, as in the attached jpg from another student?

Not in the student file you posted: set the student file's UCS and PLAN commands to WORLD and it will jump away from 0,0,0 where as yours will not.

I am totally not understanding this.   So if the students is jumping away from 0,0 and mine is not (I can see that),   is that not the problem? Why is it doing that and how do you fix it?   They should both be at 0,0?

You decide if it is a problem or not, its your class/course and not mine: your student actually took the initiative (or decided to hide the copy/paste cheat) to move the UCS to where they needed it to be, unless you expressly asked then to not do that in their assignment.

You "fix" it by moving the content back to 0,0,0 after you reset UCS and PLAN commands to WORLD.

Ok,  I think I understand the problem and how to fix it.   Not sure how the student was able to do this!!!!

OBJECT sub-option
Select rectangle

then

PLAN command
CURRENT UCS sub-option

Done.
