AutoCAD Block Attributes: Block Instance Attribute Visibility

Can Block Attributes be hidden for block instances but still visible in the properties palette (and available for data extraction)?

I wish to utilise block attributes to hold block-instance specific meta-data (eg. Manufacturer, Material, Cost, Electrical/Mechanical loads) that can be scheduled out (using Data Extraction Wizard), while remaining invisible in model space.

I have tried hiding the attributes using Visibility States, but when hiding using this method, the attributes do not show in the block instance properties and are not available for data extraction.

Any advice or suggestions welcome.
