AutoCAD batch files to plot into pdf

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am having trouble with AutoCAD. I go to make a batch file it works, but then when I go to open the newly created pdf the drawing is several sizes smaller and is still on the same paper size. What can I do? Is this an AutoCAD problem, or is it something in Adobe PDF?

Thanks. Now post your PDF with the small issue.

Why do you have pagesetup overrides (CRI 26x36) selected?

Like everyone else, I cannot repeat your issue here at all.

BTW, learn to capture screenshots and save them as images instead of pasting them rotated in DOC files, here is how, it's been around since Win7 came out 7+years ago https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13776/windows-use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots

I didn’t have to have the override, more times than not they are just set on default

But when I got to plot or print I want them to be on 36 x 24, and for some reason at the start of this week

The drawings have been showing up small on the 36 x 24” and it is only when I batch file or publish

Not when I create a single sheet

The first attachment are my settings

the second attachment what is happening

the third attachment is what it should look like

So what changed on your PC or network?

1. PUBLISH without the overrides, as shown in my last post's screenshot, see if that makes any difference.

2. If not, R2018 offers 4-other PDF choices on the PUBLISH pop-up, try each (with no pagesetup overrides) and see if any of those act differently.

The only thing that changed is my computer received and update from windows, and I tried to download revit and it said I wasn't given the permissions on my computer which I have never had a problem with, now this is happening

What is R2018?

R2018=AutoCAD Release 2018

Try the two tests I suggested next.

>>>...wasn't given the permissions on my computer...<<<
That's a security setting from your server credentials or your anti-virus or Windows Defender: your update may or may not have altered the settings of the latter.

Windows Creator Update and AutoCAD don't play well, not sure it has any bearing on your exact issue though https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autodesk-software-does-n...

I will try the other (to pdf) that AutoCAD has, I will leave out the overrides too

Is it possible that the updates are the reason for the problems I am facing now?

I have an attachment showing installation dates, I know most of them say 11/09/2017 but I have also updated since last week as well

HI @Anonymous,

If you have just received some updates you can try uninstalling them temporarily to see if that helps.  You might also try installing .NET framework 4.7.1 to see if that has any impact on this issue.

I already have the update apparently, I don't know if it is adobe, or if it is the translation from autocad to adobe

Hi @Anonymous,

Try PUBLISHing this file and let me know if the resulting PDF turns out correctly.

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes, the dwg but please make sure that in the Publish window you select Plotter named in Page Setup. I applied a Page setup to each layout and I want to make sure they work properly. I also, in the page setup, changed the scale to 1:1 instead of the 1:1_1 that you had.

I am wondering if the scale list in your AutoCAD is broken. This can be reset in Options.

I suggest that you also Reset your settings to Default in case the DWG to PDF has something misconfigured in it.

As an alternative try (make a backup of the original) replacing yours with mine.

I don't have a plotter set up because I have it as dwg to pdf, and when I set the scale paper size to 1:1 it awlays reverts back to that 1:1_1 crap even after I apply to layout.

HI @Anonymous,

In the file I provided, I created a Page Setup with a defined plotter.  Use that and do not Publish to PDF. Use the Plotter named in Page Setup.

Hi @Anonymous,

We took this offline so I could remote into your desktop.

  • We cleaned out the Scalelist using SCALELISTEDIT,
  • We modified your 24x36 PageSetup to use 1:1 for the scale and to use AutoCAD PDF (General Documentation).pc3 as your driver.
  • In the PC3 and PMP I showed you how you can filter the pages sizes so you can see only the ones you use and I also showed you how you can modify the page size for the margins (we set to 0).
  • We then applied the pagesetup to one of the layouts.
  • In PUBLISH, we used Plotter named in Pagesetup and selected all the pages and applied the named page setup.
  • The resulting PDF turned out properly.

We also discussed how you might consider breaking your drawing up a bit for speed and protection from drawing corruption.

I suggested creating your model and xrefing it into a variety of drawings set up for each sheet or subgroup of sheets.

I also suggested that you might want to xref your titleblock.

Your current titleblock contains attributes which require manual editing. I suggested that you replace attributes with fields. They can either be linked to Drawing Properties or to the properties in a sheet set.

As an extra step, I created a SheetSet for the drawing you have provided. You will find that I created a separate titleblock that can be referenced. I also created a block that can be inserted on each page that contains fields linked to the sheet set. I did this process on the coversheet page so you can see how it works. In addition, from your sheet set I created a sheet indes that I placed on your cover sheet as well.

I hope this gets you up and running as well as gives you some ideas for streamlining your process.
