AutoCAD Application has stopped working

I've been using AutoCAD 2016 Suite products and all of a sudden the "AutoCAD Application has topped working" message appears.  I uninstalled the entire suite and uninstalled the Microsoft Visual C++... and reloaded them.  The same AutoCAD message appears.

Hi,

welcome @Anonymous.autodesk.com!

>> AutoCAD Application has topped working

When does this message appear? During installation, during start of AutoCAD, during loading a drawing, running a specific command, working on a specific drawing, ...?

Hi @Anonymous,

I am sorry to see that you are having this issue. By chance, did your Graphics card driver get updated? Can you roll back to the previous version to see if that remedies the problem?

Hi John,
I don't think the card was updated. Where would I check to see if the graphics card was updated?

Hi,

you can also try to

  • start AutoCAD with a right-click on the desktop icon and use option "start as administrator"
  • start AutoCAD within a new Windows user account
  • start AutoCAD after disabling antivirus software
  • start AutoCAD while network (and especially Internet) is disabled/disconnected.

Hi Pat,

What version of Windows are you using and which video cards do you have installed?

If Windows 7 (and I suspect later versions as well) go to Device Manager in Windows Control Panel, open Display Adapters, rt-click on your installed video card. You should see options to Update and Roll back. It will also tell you which driver you have installed.

I am assuming that everything has been working properly until just recently.

Hi John,

Your are correct.  I'm running Windows 7.  The display adapter date is 2/3/2015 and doesn't appears to have been updated recently and no previous versions before the 2/3/2015 version.

Hi @Anonymous,

Is this happening on more than one workstation?

Try Alfred's suggestion of logging on as a new Administrator user account and see if the issue persists.

John,
It's only happening on my desktop. How do I log on with a new administrator user account.

Hi @Anonymous,

If you are not worried about network connectivity (for testing of course) I suggest that you go to Windows Control Panel>User Accounts and add a new user to the workstation with Administrative privileges. You can then log off and re-logon but using the new account.

If everything works in this configuration, we can remove your previous profile (save all documents first) and then create it again.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am following up to see how your issue is progressing or if you have had the opportunity to try a new user account.

Please update your post.

John,
Sorry I've been out of the office for a few days. I'm still having problems and tried a new user account. I'll see if my IT consultant can help. Thank you for all of your help and suggestions. If we resolve the issue I'll post it for others.

John,
Alas, the AutoCAD suite of programs are working again. Checked the properties, compatibility tab and the "run this program in compatibility mode.." was not checked. Checked the box, restarted my computer and we're finally back in business again. Thank you for you suggestions as well as Alfred's. Have a great weekend!

I'm not sure but this is what I did...Check the properties, compatibility tab and the "run this program in compatibility mode.." to make sure it's checked.  If not, check the box, restart your computer.  I am by not means an expert but this is what I did to resolve my problem.
