AutoCAD 2026 locking up and crashing

I am finding that 2026 locks up and crashes frequently. It is installed on the same computer as 2025, which works flawlessly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times, and have tried it as both plain vanilla and also with settings imported from 2025 with no difference. It does not do it on all drawings, but once it does it on a drawing, it will no longer open that drawing without crashing. Recover and Audit have no effect. Yet that same drawing opens right up on 2025. I have tried 3 different graphics card drivers, and have a dual boot W10/W11, and it does it on both boots.

Anyone else having 2026 specific problems?

@sdvannelli  "doesn't do it all the time" usually means a file is corrupt or it's folder location is the issue. Next time it happens, restart the 2026 program then use RECOVER to open that problem file.

If it happens ALL the time (sometimes folks around here change their story after more testing)... Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero): a restart of your AutoCAD2026 is required for it to take effect.

Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables. If still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort, see if a more drastic fix is needed.

We are testing AutoCAD2026 side-by-side with AutoCAD 2025.1.2 here and not seeing any crashes at all in our own files.

It looks as though (for now), changing GFXDX12 to 0 may have worked. But a bigger question is why did it work. It is set to 1 in 2025, and that works perfectly. The machine is more than capable of handling 2026 - I have attached the Tuner Log which works with DX11, and also the one that does not work with DX12. Anything you can see that would be causing the problem on 2026, but not 2025 with DX12? Thanks.

Every new version of AutoCAD tweaks graphics settings: 2026 is new, it's not 2025-v2 so to speak.

See if there’s an update to your graphics driver. Still waiting for Autodesk to update their website to show certified graphics cards for 2026:

Yeah, I tried the most recent as well as 2 others. They didn't make any difference. Oddly enough, on a separate "spare" computer, which is 13 years old, everything works fine with the same graphics card. Must be some oddball combination of factors affecting 2026 on this specific computer build. I see that some other have had the same issue, so hopefully it will get addressed in an update.

Just checked, drivers are up to date for my RTX 4090

Even tried 'Studio driver' installation, problem persists with GFXDX12 set to 1

Must add, with GFXDX12 set to 0 the drawings open lightning fast.

Many thanks!

I have a license for autocad 2026, it worked for 2 days, then I updated the video card and I literally don't have access to the program anymore. The screen goes black, all my folders are closed and the program doesn't run.
What is to be done? I have an Nvidia video card RTX4050

time to roll back your video card since most likely the updated software drivers is now incompatible with 2026

I posted the original question, and this is not a solution to the issue I have. Please retract that there has been an accepted solution, because there has not.

I did not mark it as acceptable and don't know how to retract it. 😞
